He is perhaps the most famous wrestling
referee of them all. Tommy Young wore the black and white stripes in
Jim Crockett rings for over 15 years and officiated some of the most
famous and important matches in NWA wrestling history during those
years.
Recently Tommy donned the stripes again
to referee the championship match of the Anderson Brothers Classic
Tag Team Tournament in Kings Mountain, NC. The next morning he met
photographer Eric Stace at the old Charlotte Coliseum (also known as
Independence Arena, now known as Bojangles Coliseum) on Independence
Blvd. in Charlotte, the site of some of those famous bouts. Eric was
kind enough to share a couple of those photographs with the
Mid-Atlantic Gateway.
