Very
few photographs from this tournament are known to exist. The
main group of photographs below were taken by Bob McAlister, a public relations
person for the Greenville Memorial Auditorium in Greenville SC hired
to market the Auditorium and assist management in dealing with the
promoters of various events. Sandy Scott was Crockett Promotions'
local promoter in South Carolina and Western North Carolina at that
same time. Bob rode up to Greensboro with Sandy on the day of the US
tournament event and got permission to be at ringside to shoot these
pictures. These sixteen photographs were given by Bob to our friend
Don Holbrook years ago. They were extra copies he had of the dozens
he took that night.
The bottom three photographs were shot by veteran wrestling photographer the late Gene Gordon.
Two of them
were located after a lengthy search through the archived negatives by
their owner Scooter Lesley. The other was sent to us by a collector.
We are fortunate to be able to present
these photographs here. - D. Bourne
